Small masonry heater video

Posted by on Jan 3, 2013 in Blog, Videos, Whats new? | 0 comments

This stove performs way better than you should think. Offcource flu gases dont come down towards the most effective larger masonry-stoves but it heats the room really well with going through less than a 1 kubik meter of wood in a month ! And the room temperature in the morning is just slightly colder and heats up quickly. Comfort and dryness of the room is very different than with a conventional stove. Total cost of the stove is around 65 AZN. That is less than 100 USD.  With the wood price here in Azerbaijan it pays back within one winter! Expected lifetime? Ill give it some decades with minor maintainance.

Masonry stove workshop with Ekonomka in Sweden

Posted by on Sep 13, 2012 in Blog, Videos | 0 comments

This summer I had the privelage to do a workshop on masonry stoves with Ekonomka. It was a very good time with nice people and nice food in a very nice place called Gotland, a small island outside the coast of Sweden. The instructors, Peter and his wife Tatyana, did a great job hosting this. The where skillfull and knowledgeable, and willing to share their knowledge generously. Their stoves utilies the FMG (Free movment of Gases) that utilise chambers or bells if you like in stead of only channels. This is developed by I. S. Podgorodnikov and later Igor Kuznetsov. This tradition of masonry stoves are brought to the west by builders like Ekonomka.se (Peter and Tatyana...

The rock-bucket rocket

Posted by on Sep 10, 2012 in Blog, Our work, Videos | 8 comments

I got the idea of this stove construction reading a book on how they used to heat medival castels. Offcourse this is a radical downscale of the concept, but the function is somewhat the same. I really like the simplisity of this construction. And I like to think that the “organic” unnsymetrical channels formed by the rocks somehow works better together with the natural flow of gases than channels and chambers… This is neither a bell nor a channel system. It becomes something in between. I know that maintaining a good surfface/weight ratio is important for a good working stove. And I cant think of a more interesting way to obtain that. I rebuilded the...

If you live in Azerbaijan and would like us to make a stove in your own house, we can most probably help you.  One option is to organice the making of your stove as a course for local builders to learn, and than it will only cost you the materials ! Testing out chimney stones for rocket-stove video…

Posted by on Mar 6, 2012 in Blog, Videos | 0 comments

In Azerbaijan it is comon to build chimneys very lightly of these kind of stones. They are made localy, but you have to pick the nice ones, because many are delivered with cracs from the manufacturer… They will work fine, but i dont expect them to last for 10-15 years like some have reported with their constructions. On the other hand they build really quickly…
